Call for Short Courses

call for short courses closed

We welcome the submission of proposals for Short Courses at EuCAP 2020. Short Courses are intended to provide a focused presentation of a scientific and/or application topic by one or very few high level experts, within the areas of research of the antennas and propagation community.

Short courses can be of the following types:

  • Advanced: for audience of researchers already having a good basic knowledge of the field. A time slot may be reserved at the end of the course allowing for a deeper discussion between the participants and the speakers

  • Tutorial: for an audience that has no special pre-existing knowledge of the topic and is interested in grasping the essentials of the state-of-the-art technology, challenges and perspectives. Such short courses may be of interest for engineers and for young or even experienced researchers

  • Educational Sessions: Educational Sessions are introduced at EuCAP2020 for the first time and are a more compact version of a conventional Short Course (1 hour long). Typically, proposals from distinguished teachers will be considered. The topics should be of a broad interest and on a basic level, for example “basics of computational electromagnetics”. The total number of Educational Sessions at EuCAP2020 is limited to 6.

The proposals must be submitted using the template. They can involve 1 or 2 instructors and must be submitted no later than September 20, 2019 via email to shortcourses@eucap2020.org. All proposals will be subject to review by the Short Courses Chair and the Technical Programme Chairs. The receipt of proposals will be acknowledged via email. The acceptance/rejection notification will be provided no later than October 18, 2019. It will be based on multiple criteria, such as (non-exhaustively) the coverage of EuCAP scientific areas, the relevance and topical character of the subject and the size of the expected audience. For Educational Sessions, instructors will be evaluated by their teaching experience.

Advanced and tutorial Short Courses will be a half-day in length (3 hours of the course plus a break). The instructor must be aware that an accepted short course will be cancelled if less than 5 participants have registered at the deadline. In this respect, instructors are encouraged to advertise the Short Course through their own networks and dissemination channels. These Short Courses will take place on Friday afternoon. It is a responsibility of the instructor to distribute the course material to the participants.

Educational Sessions will be 60 minutes and be open for all delegates at no extra cost. There is no restriction on a number of the participants. To accommodate introductions, housekeeping information, and some time for questions and answers, actual content should be limited to 50 minutes. Educational Sessions will be scheduled outside the conference technical programme, e.g. mornings, lunch breaks, evenings.
